Job Description

General Description: As part of MUST’s Leadership Team, this role is responsible for fostering excellent internal and external communications with MUST Stakeholders and supporting development, networking, and marketing efforts. The Director of Strategic Partnerships and Church Relations will build and steward partnerships and relationships that support our impact, visibility, and financial resources.

Church Relations Primary Responsibilities

  • Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward all religious organizations in MUST service areas to develop strategies for mutual benefit.
  • Develop and maintain an effective program of stewardship of religious organizations, including participating in all aspects of the gift cycle: (1) initiate contacts with potential donors; (2) develop appropriate cultivation strategies, including working with volunteers and senior leadership; (3) move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure; (4) make solicitations when appropriate; (5) maintain stewardship contacts with donors.

Strategic Partnerships Primary Responsibilities

  • Actively work with MUST leadership to develop and implement an innovative and comprehensive servant-leadership based partnership and branding strategy to include corporations, individuals, foundations and other community partners that help advance our mission, funding, volunteer opportunities, and visibility in the community.
  • Assist in developing and delivering an annual fundraising and communication plans
  • Actively participate in external speaking events including engagements at industry gatherings. Use these opportunities to deepen relationships with current donors and the broader community. Be prepared to speak with media as necessary in support of the CEO and COO.
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least 8-10 years’ experience in development with demonstrated success in donor/partner management and strategy and innovative partner/donor engagement efforts
  • Successful experience in making cold calls as well as developing cultivation and solicitation strategies, including closing gifts and securing partnerships
  • Experience with or knowledge of communications, media relations and marketing

Skills/Abilities

  • Strong negotiation and multi-stakeholder consensus-building skills, along with excellent presentation skills – written and in-person
  • Solid understanding of philanthropy best practices and a passion for non-profit innovation
  • Capable of leading with composure, flexibility, and efficiency, especially under the pressure of deadlines and goals
  • Strategic thinker, self-directed leader and a collaborative team member
  • Microsoft Office skills and familiarity with social media, Google Apps and mobile devices
  • required; experience using Salesforce and Raiser’s Edge helpful
  • Demonstrated leadership and the ability to successfully manage multi-functional or diverse areas.

Physical and Work Requirements:

  • Requires standing, walking, lifting, and bending.
  • May be required to work nights and weekends as needed.
  • May be required to lift up 25 lbs.
